Buttermilk Biscuits

 

Ingredients

¾ Milk

2 tsp White Vinegar

2 Cups Flour

1 Tbl Baking Powder

½ tsp Salt

1/3 Cup Shortening

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 Degrees.

  2. Combine milk and vinegar together. Let stand for 5-10 minutes. The milk will thicken and become buttermilk.

  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  4. Using a pastry blender, or hands with gloves, cut in shortening until it is all combined.

  5. Create a well (indentation in in flour) and add milk. Stir together until it forms a dough.

  6. On a floured surface, knead dough about 8-10 times.

  7. Roll the dough into a rectangle about ¾ inch.

  8. Using a biscuit cutter, or any circular shape, cut biscuits.

  9. Place on baking sheet and bake biscuits 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Biscuits can be served with butter, used for a sandwich, a side for breakfast, or a replacement for English Muffins in Eggs Benedict.
