Ingredients

2 tsp Yeast

1 Cup Warm Water

¼ Cup Sugar

3 Tbl Milk

1 Egg

2 tsp Salt

4 Cups Flour

¼ Cup Butter – Melted

Optional

Minced Garlic

Dried Herbs of Choice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine yeast and warm water (microwave water for 30 seconds). Let stand for about 10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.

  2. Add in sugar, milk, egg, and salt. Stir until combined.

  3. Add flour 1 cup at a time until dough begins to form.

  4. Remove dough and knead on floured surface for 2-3 minutes. The remaining flour will be used during this process. It is ok if not quite all the flour is used.

  5. Once dough is formed and smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for at least 1 hour. Overnight in refrigerator is fine too.

  6. When dough has doubled in size, punch it down. Divide dough into 12 pieces. Form little balls with each piece.

  7. Let the dough balls sit for 15-20 minutes. This will allow them to rise again.

  8. Once time has elapsed. Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball into a thin circle. It is fine if they are not perfect!

  9. Preheat grill (or griddle or cast-iron pan).

  10. Before grilling, lightly brush melted butter onto one side of the naan. Grill that side for about 2 minutes. Before flipping, brush butter on uncooked side. Flip and cook for 2 minutes.

  11. Repeat this process until all pieces are cooked.

  12. Serve with traditional Indian food or use as an appetizer.
