2/3 Cup Boiling Water
1 Cup Molasses
1/3 Cup Butter
2 1/3 Cup Flour
½ tsp Salt
1 ½ tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Ginger
½ tsp Cinnamon
¼ tsp Ground Cloves
¼ tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Vanilla
¼ Cup Powdered Sugar
1 tsp Milk
In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil.
Place butter in a saucepan or small skillet. Melt together and cook until boiling.
Add boiling water to butter and molasses. Stir until combined. Set aside momentarily.
Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Create a well in the flour mixture.
Add the butter-molasses mixture to the flour mixture. Stir until combined.
Add vanilla to combined gingerbread dough.
Prepare a 9 x 9 pan with grease or parchment paper, or combination of both.
Spread the gingerbread dough in the pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until gingerbread shrinks away from the pan and the top is dry.
Let cool. Remove from pan and cut into desired size.
Optional: Sprinkle with powdered sugar or create a simple frosting with milk and powdered sugar to drizzle on top.
